Advanced foot health practitioner academy

At the Advanced Foot Health Practitioners Academy (AFHPA), the courses are designed and delivered by practising, successful podiatrists and Biomechanics. Our Foot health Practitioners course is equivalent to a level 4 NVQ allowing students to work independently once qualified.

Why choose us?

Our modern, North-East based education centre is the only Foot health facility attached to a busy Podiatry clinic allowing the student’s the opportunity to shadow a practising Podiatrist.  We also have access to a number of clients ensuring there is plenty of practical experience available to all of our attendees.

We work to the highest standards ensuring that no student leaves without feeling confident and capable.  We even provide information relating to setting up as self-employed and offer tips on generating business, keeping accounts and N.I and Tax implications

Our Foot health practitioner course is a one year course comprising of 12 modules concluding with a 2 week practical session in our modern clinic. All of our curriculum is based on the most up to date research.

We work in partnership with some of the UK’s most innovative Orthotics developers and Biomechanics meaning we are able to offer comprehensive Biomechanics training and one-off CPD and guest lecture events to further improve your knowledge of this area of health.

Our practical module involves 2 weeks on site training, culminating in an assessment of students delivering a treatment.  During this period, there are lectures relating to aspects of the modules covered, guest speakers and a client base for students to practice on under the supervision of Podiatrists and other qualified FHP’s.

Each one of our students is assigned a mentor who can be contacted for extra support and advice, during their studies.

All students who successfully complete our course will have access to full liability insurance at a preferential rate leaving you safe in the knowledge that you are protected at all times.

Plan for a better Future

Foot health practitioners are becoming widely recognised and respected for the role they play in maintaining the foot health of the community and for offering a safe and hygienic service to the general public.  Becoming an FHP allows you to work independently, choose your own hours and make a real difference to peoples lives.

Our Specialties

  • Foot Health

  • High Quality training

Our Podiatrist led teaching puts us head and shoulders above other similar training providers and, although we are still one of the newest training providers in this field, we are already regarded as a high-quality teaching facility by a number of widely recognised organisations and medical professionals.  We are the only facility who regard biomechanics as highly as Foot health and provide students with a sound knowledge of the subject as standard.

Our centre is conveniently based on the Quayside of Blyth, Northumberland.  There is ample free parking and our building is fully accessible.

We are a 5-minute walk from the towns bus station with a regular service to and from Newcastle city centre.  Newcastle airport is a 30-minute drive away

Other courses we offer are;

  • Biomechanics Diploma
  • Postural assessments and Orthotics
  • Corns and verrucae management
  • First Aid certification

Can I complete the course quicker than in 12 months?

This course is specialised and can be quite in depth.  We, therefore, do not recommend that students attempt to complete it in an earlier time and miss out on the opportunity to read around subjects to gain a greater educational experience.  Any alterations in course length must be agreed with the faculty.

How do we get the coursework?

Coursework will be made available within 4 weeks of acceptance onto the course, on a module by module basis.  It is essential that each student is reasonably familiar with the use of computers and software such as MS Word to enable you to complete assignments.

Each module is posted to candidates and is yours to keep for future reference.  We strongly recommend each student reads around each module to gain a greater understanding of the subject matter.  This will be helpful when transferring theory to practice.

When I attend my 2 week practical course, is there somewhere nearby to stay?

For those students seeking accommodation, we are able to negotiate preferential rates with a very attractive hotel which is a short walking distance from the academy.  We can create Facebook groups that students may join to arrange room sharing, cutting down on costs.

How much is the course?

The course fees are £2400 inc vat.  There are no further fees for exams unless a resit is required.

Further information about course fees and finance options are available upon request.

Is there parking at the site?

The academy is based in a picturesque Quayside location where there is ample parking for both able-bodied and disabled students.  The building also features an elevator as the college is on the first floor.

Will there be clients to practice on?

The academy will provide clients for students to practice their skills on.  We also offer each student the opportunity to shadow a working Podiatrist in our clinic which is housed in the same building.

Do I need to buy uniform?

A single tunic will be provided to each student upon arrival. This can be worn over a white t-shirt for comfort during training.  The tunic must be worn at all times during clinic hours, but may be taken off during class work or lectures.  Each student must wear Black smart trousers, socks and sensible shoes, preferably lace ups or Velcro straps while in clinic. This is for safety reasons.

Can anyone apply?

This course is the equivalent of a level 4.  A good understanding of English is beneficial as most coursework is in written format, a mature attitude and willingness to learn are paramount. All applications are considered on a person by person basis. We may hold applicant interviews if we require further information.

All students are asked to provide a brief CV to outline previous work experience.

Any students with specific learning requirements will be supported as much as is within our means.

We work closely with Foothealth EU to bring high-quality CPD and guest lecture events suitable for a variety of health professions.  Course dates are available from their website.  Click here for more information.
